There is something irresistibly mesmerizing about Lincoln's face. I can't really put my finger on why. Something about the humanity and the inscrutability of his gaze. He's never afraid to "make eye contact" with the camera.

Thus, I feel like the draw to this book was less the author and more the subject. But isn't it always with books about Lincoln? ( )

I would use this book with 5th grade because of the long and rich vocabulary used throughout along with the lengthy sentences. This would be a good a good mentor text because students could learn further information about a past president and about his life.

You could use this book as a read aloud for a 5th grade classroom. As your reading, students will be assigned to a certain category (childhood, speeches, politics, goals, etc.) While reading, students will have to take notes about their topics that they have. When the book is done, students will have to create a page with an illustration about their facts. The students will share their findings and their pages will be posted on bulletin board. This way students are learning about Abraham Lincoln while comprehending the book. You could also use this in a 4th grade classroom as a read aloud in order to introduce the idea of a biography. While reading, tell the students to take notes about what they notice. Tell them to pay attention to what the author talks about (like where he's from, maybe how old he is, etc). When you are done, the students will have to write their own biographies about themselves using some of the ideas that the author did. They will share their books with the class.

This is a photobiography which shows how innovative and important media was, especially photography during the presidency and life of Lincoln. Thisis one of several books in Sandler’s Through the Lens series.

A wonderful information book about Abraham Lincoln. It follows his life very accurately and shows wonderful real life photographs. A book you would probably have to read a little bit at a time because there is so much greta information.
