The illustrations are stunning woodcuts with watery jewel toned colors. The poems are delightful, lovely to read out loud. That it is also telling poems about real pond crashes and their lives makes this book truly stunning. ( ) Short poems written in a variety of poetic styles depicting the seasons of a pond and the lives of plants and animals which inhabit it. On-page, non-fiction, interesting facts expand upon each topic of the poem. Beautifully illustrated. Recommend for classes studying wetlands and pond life as a supporting text. This is a really cute book about different types of animals and creatures that live in a pond. Some of the poems are concrete throughout this book, but not all of them are. On each page, the creature that the poem is about is described. I enjoyed the factual information that was present in this book because it can be used in order to guide a science lesson. I also learned about different kinds of creatures by reading this book of poems. I think it is important to use factual poetry as well as fictional poetry in the classroom. no reviews | add a review
