It's like the biggest cliffhanger ending and it picks up in a weird place in the 3rd book. But it was amazing!!!!! I totally loved it. ( ) I don’t think I have especially many thoughts for this one compared to the last. Here is what I will say however. (Spoilers ahead) - the story felt less childishly written and more sophisticated, which is nice. and I don’t thINK it’s just a placebo from me not knowing how young Christopher was anymore man i wanted to like this so bad,,, funny enough the length in which this took me to read has nothing to do with no liking it. i just got covid and the hold lapsed and took forever to get back to me. i actually read it pretty quick. but damn… this really really underwhelmed me. the plot was too predictable, the attempt at using old/mythical like language was simply laughable, and the complete and utter butt kissing dick sucking that this book has for elves was infuriating. i don’t know how to explain how much is despise the fantasy theme of “humans suck. but elves Cai a escuridão... Colidem as espadas... Reina o mal. This is perhaps the longest that I took to complete any book (including LOTR). That tells a lot about how this book is. The book starts off well, but drags on boringly in the middle. It gets so boring that at one point that I even considered not reading it all. However, my persistence paid off as the book ends well. the last 20% of the book is exciting, specially when Eragon decides to return to Surda. The Roran chapters are well written and helped keep me reading in the middle of the book. Hope the next installment is better written than this.
Nothing wrong with a good thick serving of swords 'n' sorcery, but it needs a hero. In the hands of a writer like George R.R. Martin, Lois McMaster Bujold, Barbara Hambly, or J. K. Rowling, the central characters of fantasy are persons worth knowing: smart, flawed, moral, doomed to love the world more than the world loves back. It's fun that they're kings and queens and wizards, but we read the books because Miles Vorkosigan or Harry Potter are in them, the kind of people we'd like to know and be. Unfortunately, Eragon just doesn't measure up to the standard; he's a Frankenstein video-game hero, clanking with magic armor, charms, and weapons, but long on seams and short that essential spark of life. It's clear that Paolini has drive and talent, and "Eldest" is, for the most part, competently constructed and written. The problem, however, is that anyone committed to reading a 2,000-page epic deserves more than competence and tropes that have been used countless times before. Is contained inAwardsDistinctions
