( ) Eragon finds a polished blue stone and tries to sell it to feed his family. No one will buy it and then one night it cracks and a dragon hatches. The dragon has selected Eragon as his rider and telepathic friend. So begins the adventures of a dragon rider. When tragedy strikes his family he sets out to seek revenge with the assistance of the storyteller, Brom. As Brom starts to teach him about dragons, the old legends, the evil Empire and the skills of fighting and magic, life becomes very complicated. The life of a dragon rider holds many responsibilities and he must guard carefully against people who would use him. This was a fast paced action packed fantasy and a good beginning to a series.

Here, Paolini is leagues ahead of most writers, and it is exactly here that his youth is on his side.
