reading this with my 12 year old daughter.
what a fun scary little book. I LOVE that it integrated videos on-line with a story. And, the passwords, I'd read almost all the books they were tied to, it was nice to get an additional nudge as to where the story was going with the video password. I can't wait for my daughter to read it and tell me what she thought. ( )

Favorite lines in this book:

"We began our quest at the local library, a gloomy twelve-by-twelve-foot room at Elm and Main, open on Mondays and Wednesdays. It was also open on New Year's day, Christmas day, and Easter Sunday, because according to Galdys Morgan, our prehistoric and very unhappy town librarian, 'Nobody comes in on those days and the library is deathly quiet, as a library should be.'" Giving librarians a bad name!!! But the character is actually pretty funny - later on she wields a shotgun.

"I wonder if my mom is sneakier than she looks." They usually are.

"Adults in general take a lot of comfort in these tools, but a fifteen-year-old who can't get around parental controls on a computer is probably also having trouble tying his shoes."

Quick spooky read with a lot of mysteries. The passwords for Sarah's online videos made a great companion to Ryan's journal and I liked that. ( )

This was a creepy, good read. It reminds me of the tv series I watched as a child and enjoyed (Are You Afraid of The Dark, Tales from the Crypt, Ghostwriter, and Goosebumps.) I really enjoyed the hybrid style of writing and video to get the story. I enjoyed the interactiveness of going to my computer after reading the journal and watching videos. This story mode made me feel like I was an additional character in the world-building that found Ryan's journal and needed to know what happened at the Dredge. I would recommend this family-friendly and more creepy than scary story to anyone who enjoys a fun mystery with vanilla-horror elements. ( )
