(blank) Charles returns home in hopes of finding a bride and to investigate spies and smugglers in his home town. Penny was his best friend/lover when they were young and she tries to hide that she is still in love with him. Together they solve a mystery and fall deeper in love than ever before. Ok story but it was too drawn out. A lot of unimportant info could have been cut out, especially at the beginning. A Lady of His Own - Laurens Audio performance by Jill Tanner 3 stars Bastian Club#3. The Earl, Charles St. Austell, returns to his ancestral home. He is happy to have an excuse to avoid London’s marriage mart. At the behest of his ‘ex-commander’ (an extremely overused title) Dalziel, he is chasing a rumor of past treason during the war with Napoleon. His lust/love for Lady Penelope is instantly reignited despite the 12 year interruption of the war. Three murders by a mysterious assassin interrupts the lovemaking (how annoying) until they finally manage to trap the criminal. The mystery of Dalziel’s true identity remains. bastion-club, reread, traitor, treason, murder, historical-romance, england A Bastion Club novel, and all of them are good and each is different. Another romance novel, one where a misunderstanding years ago left each of them mistrusting the other (separated for many years until after Waterloo), but this one does have a real plot to keep you interested long after the gratuitous erotica has you yawning. Aside from the romance aspect, there are murders, traitorous activites found out, help from fellow ex spies, and a lot of speculation and action throughout. No spoilers. Just enjoy it. Jill Tanner does a pretty good job with this one. Next in the Bastion series. Charles is sent by his ex-commander to his estate to investigate and flush out a possible traitor. But, she keeps him dancing until the very end, not agreeing to marriage until he meets her terms no reviews | add a review

The seven members of the Bastion Club have served loyally in the perilous service of the Crown. Now they've banded together to support one another through their most dangerous mission of all: getting married. When Charles St. Austell returns home to claim his title as earl, and to settle quickly on a suitable wife as well, he discovers that experience has made him impatient of the young ladies who vie for his attention-with the exception of Lady Penelope Selborne. Years ago, Charles and Penelope's youthful ardor was consummated in an unforgettable afternoon. Charles is still haunted by their interlude, but Penny refuses to have anything more to do with him. If controlling her heart was difficult before, resisting a stronger, battle-hardened Charles is well nigh impossible, yet Penelope has vowed she won't make the same mistake twice, nor will she marry without love. But when a traitorous intrigue draws them together, then ultimately threatens them both-will Penny discover she has a true protector in Charles, her first and only love, who now vows to make her his own?
