Fearing that her powerful, abusive husband is planning to murder her as she suspects he murdered his first two wives, Rainie Hall fakes her own death with the help of her friends and moves to Crystal Falls, Oregon, to start anew. She is hesitant about applying for the bookkeeper job she sees listed at a local horse ranch—what if her employer checks her references and discovers she’s using a fake identity?—but she has to work so she takes the risk. Parker Harrigan, her new employer, is a handsome, strong, intelligent man; at first angry when he discovers her deception, he also realizes that she’s most likely running for a good reason and keeps her on. Meanwhile, back in Seattle, Rainie’s husband has hired a private investigator to locate his runaway wife. As Rainie’s danger grows, so too does the attraction and affection between herself and Parker.

A touching romance, as well as a novel that addresses the serious issues of domestic abuse and the long, fraught process of healing from the psychological trauma. ( )

Loraina Danning vanished to escape an abusive husband and went into hiding under an alias in another state, she falls in love with her new employer and has to choose between her fear of her old life or choosing to embrace her new life regardless of the outcome.

This book was an easy read, but predictable. The plot was not original, the characters not memorable, the explicit description of the sexual encounters was unneccesary and in all, I felt like a weight was lifted off my shoulders when I could close the book and know that I'd finished with it.

Very disappointing read. ( )

Romance is the main theme in this book, but the suspense puts some action on the page. The characters have a great chemistry and are well thought out.

This is a must read for anyone who loves a true romance novel.

Rainie marries the man of her dreams just to discover he is really a nightmare. And a murderer. She fakes her death and changes her looks to escape him. Her new boss suspects something is up with her, but he is careful and not pushy. His strength and support help Rainie to overcome her fears and a romance begins.
But, her ex husband discovers she is still alive and comes for her!

It was snowing outside when I read this. I was all cuddled up in a fluffy throw blanket near the fireplace. It was so easy to tune out the business of my life and take a little time for myself. I highly recommend the book...and the experience! ( )
