I would use this book for first grade and under, this books images and interactive pages are appropriate for young readers, who are not proficient at reading yet. This is a book I would use to teach a sequencing standard. ( )

I would use this book in a Kindergarten or a first grade classroom. I would use this book in young age groups because of its use of its value for teaching short stories. I would have my students create their own short story of an animal and its life cycles. I could also use this for children that are in kindergarten to teach the days of the week, time, and counting skills. I would also use this for vocabulary and a science extension into metamorphic changes. ( )

This book is a book that every child should be introduced to. It goes through the life of a caterpillar in a week and at the end of the week the caterpillar becomes a butterfly. This is a good book to introduce children the life cycle of a caterpillar as it transform into a butterfly. ( )

Summary: The Very Hungry Caterpillar shows children how caterpillars become butterflies. The caterpillar literally eats his way through each page of the most eye catching illustrations until growing tired and forming a cocoon. The caterpillar then emerges from the cocoon no longer a hungry caterpillar, but a beautiful butterfly.

Personal Reaction: I loved this book as a child. The pictures are captivating and even now as an adult reading it to my daughter I see her eyes get big with excitement when we finally get to the end and the beautiful butterfly emerges.

Classroom Extension Ideas:
1.This book could be used in correlation with learning the days of the week, colors, shapes.
2.Getting a caterpillar as a classroom pet could be a fun way to witness metamorphosis.
3. Bring in the items the caterpillar ate and use them to help teach counting.

| Ana Margarida Ramos
