Old foes return again as Magpie and Talon continue their quest for the remaining sleeping Djinn and restore the Tapestry to its former glory. Two faerie clans thought lost to teh world return in the form of Whistler and Hirik, and the world takes another step into the the new age as they become heroes and campions of the Djinn. But a faerie named Dusk - formerly Onyx - is at large after jos identitity is not discovered in time by the champions. His evil may yet be the undoing of the world, as he is well versed in dark magic meant to steal the power of others and is in the possession of one of the sleeping Djinn. Taylor seems to have stopped writing this series, unfortunately, so we may never find out the conclusion of the story :( ( )

As I [too] often say,"It's really not my genre . . "; that having been said, I'm beginning to realize that I don't really *have* genres!! I read for enjoyment . . I read a wide variety of fiction and - for the most part - I enjoy the books I read. If I find that I'm not enjoying a book, I put it aside and move on to the next! I'll be seguing into my "mid-sixties"(66) in a couple of days . . life is way too short to slog through a book that I don't love!! So there!

Hmmm . . back to Laini Taylor's Dreamdark series . . these award-winning books are rife with fast-paced fantasy, interesting characters (a sexy Mothmage, faeries with great monikers --> Magpie Windwitch, Whisper Silksinger
I've added the author's Daughter of Smoke and Bone trilogy to my ever-expanding book list . . so many MANY books . . so little time. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED if you enjoy the genre and/or it's great read if you don't enjoy the genre!! Five stars!

Whisper Silksinger is the last of her kind. She is tasked with guarding the Djinn Azazel. She has to bring Azazel back to his palace to try and wake him. She isn't the only one searching for the Djinn. There is an army of devils on her trail. Whispers journey is fraught with danger and she is no warrior, her clan weave silk with their voices. On her journey only one person tries to help her, Hirik. He has a secret he is afraid to reveal because people will loathe him. He vows to help and protect her on her mission.
Magpie Windwitch is on a mission also. She has to find the rest of the Djinn and reunite them with the Djinn king. When she hears of Whisper and what she carries she immediately sets out to help her but will she make it in time!!
I jumped right into this after reading book 1 and I'm so glad I did. As I said already Laini Taylor has a way with words that makes you a part of the worlds she creates. Her vivid descriptions and imagination make for an unforgettable experience.
Her faeries may be small but they are fierce. I'm so glad we got to see Magpie in this story as well. Silksinger sees Pie having to deal with heartache, betrayal and loss.
These books may be aimed at younger kids but anyone that loves Laini Taylors writing should love these. The books will stay on my shelf and hopefully we will get more stories from Dreamdark. Be prepared though, there is a lot left unfinished in book 2 and the author doesn't have any immediate plans to write more in this series yet. Saying that I'd still highly recommend people to read these books. Dreamdark is a world I won't easily forget. ( )

Another exquisite read from an author who has become one of my favourites. Once again, Laini Taylor takes us into the beautifully detailed world of the fairies, with her usual cast of quirky characters and a plot filled with enough excitement and surprises to keep us turning the pages. My only complaint about this book is that the ending indicates that there should be more to this series, but currently there are only the two - please tell me you're going to write more, Laini! ( )
