Fifty year old Elsie MacBean (Beanie) is a newspaper reporter/writer/amateur detective who, along with her basset hound, Cruiser, investigates the possible drowning/murder of a woman on a cruise boat. Her investigating also involves the possible sighting of "Tessie", possibly Lake Tahoe's own Loch Ness creature. A fun read. [close] no reviews | add a review

Some people really go overboard for their anniversary -- especially spoiled, young Ivy Diggs, who vanishes during a crowded Fourth of July Lake Tahoe dinner cruise on the paddle wheeler Dixie Queen. It's also Elsie MacBean's 50th birthday celebration -- and almost turns out to be her last when Beanie finds herself embarking not only on a calamitous cruise, but also a murder investigation. The assumption is accidental drowning, but Beanie suspects otherwise. No library descriptions found. |

The setting was at Lake Tahoe and this is one of my favorite places so I was delighted to learn all about the lake. I didn't realize that the lake was so deep when I visited and what treasures were under the waters. I think what I loved most of all was the relationship between the mother and daughter in this book. I really didn't care about the crime so much as the wonderful quirky characters that inhabit this book.
I highly recommend it for all Lake Tahoe lovers, dog lovers and for discriminating cozy lovers. I am hungry for more. ( )
