The CIA World Factbook (https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/geos/in.html) is a publication of the United States Central Intelligence Agency, updated biweekly. It provides information about all countries recognized by the United States, including a brief background of the country, geography, demographics, government, economy, communication, transportation, military, and transnational issues. The extensive information is organized in bullet points under each category. The individual categories are collapsed until the user clicks on them, reducing the amount of clutter and information overload that would be possible with so much information presented on one page. Appendices provide information about international organizations and groups and selected international environmental agreements. This comprehensive, well-organized source is highly recommended for high school students, especially as a resource for social studies classes where access to up-to-date demographic and political information about foreign nations is critical. Although generated by the CIA students looking for quick facts about a given country are given information that is current on topics that include geography, people, economy, governement and other topics. There is also an appendix that contains valuable information such as international organizations and weights and measurements. This would be a good starting point to find the basic facts. Students could then go to other sources for further information. no reviews | add a review
