Sticking strictly to the format, we begin with Telemachus' lament for his missing father , the hordes of suitors beseiging his mother and his quest to discover what has happened to the hero Odysseus in the 10 years since he left Telemachus' mother. Switch to Odysseus being released by Calypso ( due to the goddess Athena's intevention) and then travelling home and recanting the tales of his life - rescuing his crew from Circe who turned them into pigs, escape from the capture by the Cyclops, the passage past the Sirens and the battle with Scylla of the rock. Then how Odysseus, disguised as an old man tricks the suitors pursuing his wife and slaughters them all with his son's assistance. This is a rather sexy and gory edition with racy drawings of the goddesses and blood soaked sketches of the demons of Hades. An easy way for the students of Homer to visualise the epic oral poetry that told of the gods benevolence and the deeds of mortal heroes with their assistance. An excellent starting point for reluctant students. ( ) no reviews | add a review
Odysseus, one of the great Greek warriors of the Trojan War, has not arrived home. His ship is blown off course by the vengeful sea god Poseidon, thus leading the hero into a series of awesome adventures that form a cornerstone of Western literature. This Homeric epic has been told and retold and now it receives the grand Marvel Illustrated treatment courtesy of classic scribe Roy Thomas (The Iliad) and penciler Greg Tocchini (Thor: Son of Asgard). It's the greatest voyage in all mythology! Collects Marvel Illustrated: The Odyssey #1-8. No library descriptions found. |
