This book follows the life of the Hall of Fame baseball player, Roberto Clemente, and his character both on and off the field. One of the main features of Clemente is that he was big into social justice and he put a lot of work into helping communities who are underprivileged. He unfortunately passed in a plane crash while trying to aid victims of a Nicaragua earthquake.

I really enjoyed how this biography was written. It was explaining how someone was named after the famous baseball player. It gave a lot of information and facts that I found very interesting. It was a great story that I would definitely read again. ( )

I really enjoyed this story even thought I did not know anything about Roberto Clemente. If you are a basball fan you will absalutly love this story. The illustrations are fantastic and really help bring the story to life. I had heard about Clemente as a baseball player, but I had no idea about his humanitarian work. Even if you are not a fan of baseball you will appreciate Clemente's amazing acomplishments and you will admire his personal devotion to serving others. This is an excellent read-aloud to a bilingual class. Filled with biographical information students will learn about a great baseball player and a person who helped others. Clemente died in a plane crash while delivering supplies to earthquake victims in Nicaragua

A young boy named Clemente learns the meaning behind his name, he is named after Roberto Clemente. Roberto Clemente was a Hispanic baseball player who achieved many goals. He was a great baseball player and also a philanthropist. This book by Willie Perdomo covers many aspects of Roberto Clemente's life, from childhood until death. I would share this book with my students because it covers a diverse sports figure who I have not heard about. He is an important figure in the Hispanic culture and it would be good to have diversity in class. The one thing that I did not like about this book is that it did not talk about Roberto Clemente being the first Hispanic inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. I believe that was one of his greatest accomplishments in his career and it should have been celebrated in the book. ( )

A little boy finally understands why he was named Clemente. He was names after Roberto Clemente, one of the greatest baseball players of all time.

This book not only talks about Roberto Clemente’s accomplishments on the field, but also off the field. Students will learn that a lot of athletes donate a portion of their paycheck to charity. They love giving back to the communities and especially putting a smile on a child’s face.

This is a truly exceptional biography. I loved reading it, learning about the inspirations of the author in writing it, and the life of the man who I've always heard talked about as one of the greats but never really understood. He sounds like the kind of person that someone should try to get to know better and the kind of ball player that would make a person be sure to tune in when the pirates were playing. Great book all the way around. ( )

An inspiring portrait of Clemente and a great introduction to his life and career. Collier's illustration are, as usual, stunning. ( )

The text and story was well done, but I question whether there will be a strong kid-interest in the story. There was not much in this that made me think Roberto Clemente was special. ( )

This biography is about Roberto Clemente. He was the first Latin American player inducted into the national Baseball Hall of Fame. He was known for his exceptional baseball skills, but was also known for dedicating so much of his time to charity work in Latin America. He died in a plane crash while bringing supplies to earthquake victims in Nicaragua. Although he is gone, many people still remember his talent and good heart. ( )

Clemente! is a children's picture book that does a fantastic job capturing the important highlights of Roberto Clemente's life. Roberto Clemente was a humanitarian, demonstrated by his efforts for earthquake victims in Nicaragua. Shortly after Roberto Clemente reached the impressive milestone of 3,000 hits, he boarded a flight to provide humanitarian relief for earthquake victims in Nicaragua. Unfortunately the plane crashed, killing the hero, Roberto Clemente. This book provides children with a real life hero that accomplished a lot in his short time here on earth. Definitely someone kids can look up to.
