This book follows the life of the Hall of Fame baseball player, Roberto Clemente, and his character both on and off the field. One of the main features of Clemente is that he was big into social justice and he put a lot of work into helping communities who are underprivileged. He unfortunately passed in a plane crash while trying to aid victims of a Nicaragua earthquake. I really enjoyed this story even thought I did not know anything about Roberto Clemente. If you are a basball fan you will absalutly love this story. The illustrations are fantastic and really help bring the story to life. I had heard about Clemente as a baseball player, but I had no idea about his humanitarian work. Even if you are not a fan of baseball you will appreciate Clemente's amazing acomplishments and you will admire his personal devotion to serving others. This is an excellent read-aloud to a bilingual class. Filled with biographical information students will learn about a great baseball player and a person who helped others.
