Read this for storytime and completely forgot about the ending, so I nearly started sobbing on camera and had to pause to cry for a bit. Gorgeous illustrations and a soft introduction to a difficult concept. Have the tissues ready. ( ) This is a lovely book about friendship and the many ways it which it changes and grows. City Dog meets Country Frog when he spots the frog sitting on a rock. Country Frog is wiating for another friend who does not show when expected. Country Frog tells City Dog "You Will Do!" Thoughtout the seasons these two delighfully become close and enjoy each other tremendously. Sadly, as the seasons progress Country Frog notes he is not feeling well, but does the best he can to play with Country Dog. Sadly, one day, Country Frog is no where to be found. Unprepared for the sad ending, when spring returned, a chipmunk was noted and Country Frog is sadly gone. Country Chipmunk noted City Dog, something he had never noticed previously. While Country Chipmunk cannot take the place of Country Frog, the story ends on a sad note, but hopeful in that perhpas a different relationship can grow. And, while Country Frog can never be replaced, City Dog will forever be glad that once upon a time there was a wonderful frog who became a lovely friend of City Dog. no reviews | add a review
