Though I thought the main character was a little dry and not very deep, the setting was very cool and the occult stuff was great. The quotes from famous old books definitely added to the story and some of the extremely gory scenes added to the horrific atmosphere. The solution to the defeating the beast was interesting (and I thought) original. Not sure if there's a second book in this series but I'm definitely hooked. no reviews | add a review

Mike Mignola teams up with artist Ben Stenbeck (B.P.R.D.: The Ectoplasmic Man) for a look into one of the Hellboy universe's greatest enigmas: nineteenth-century occult investigator Edward Grey! In one of Grey's first cases as an agent of the queen, he goes from the sparkling echelons of Victorian London to its dark underbelly, facing occult conspiracies, a rampaging monster, and the city's most infamous secret society: The Heliopic Brotherhood of Ra. This volume collects first short stories of the Witchfinder and main story-line - hunt for the ancient creature that started terrorizing the London after it was excavated in the far lands (wont go any further into details because to say anything more would spoil things for others).
Art is great, mood is properly set to be very dark and oppressive as one would expect from a story about the monster hunter.
Highly recommended to all fans of weird and strange tales. ( )
