Michael Clark's how-to manual for individuals considering a career as an adventure photographer is full of photos and advice, and will be useful to a relatively narrow group of people. Clark provides the basics and plenty of tips on what you'll need to succeed both as a photographic artist and business person. Clark is a photographer who shoots with Nikkon cameras and bodies, and there is a noticeable absence of references to Canon products-- the arch-enemy of Nikkon-- in the book. While he doesn't specifically plug Nikkon outside of dozens of shots of their cameras when explaining what he takes on a shoot, there are links for Hasselblad and Nikkon cameras, but not Canon in the back of the book. Considering the enormous number of professionals around the world who choose Canon bodies and lenses, I question the oversight. That aside, Clark provides plenty of pictures as examples and gives a basic overview of what it takes to do this for a living. ( ) no reviews | add a review

Digital Masters goes extreme! This beautifully produced guide by Michael Clark is the newest entry in the series, as well as the first book on a fast-growing photographic genre: shooting today’s popular extreme outdoor sports, from mountain biking and ice climbing to surfing, BASE jumping, and more. Clark is one of the world’s most respected adventure photographers, and he offers sage advice--gained from years of hard-earned experience--on equipment, techniques, and the specific skills required to get in on the action. Learn to capture fast-moving subjects and deal with harsh conditions and horrible weather--even when you’re hanging from ropes and riggings in a squall. Of special interest is the Portraiture and Lifestyle chapter, which covers increasingly in-demand techniques. Budding professionals will particularly enjoy Clark’s "Stories from the Field,” chronicling his wildest adventures in the pursuit of the perfect action shot. No library descriptions found. |
