While there were lots of sections in this book that I enjoyed, the ending was somewhat weak. Although I'm now accustomed to it, the juvenile tone of all the "romantic" relationships continues to annoy me and detracts from the overall story. Not the relationships themselves, but the pre-adolescent actions and behaviors of those involved. I know this is a long and complex saga, but I have lost track of at least half the plot lines, I'm sure, and will probably never know if they are resolved satisfactorily or not. And the glossary is worse than useless. I need a cast of characters to keep everyone straight, and having the Dark characters constantly changing their names doesn't help. Sequel to the international blockbuster bestseller A Crown of Swords, The Path of Daggers continues one of history's greatest fictional journeys and the most extraordinary work of American fantasy ever published—The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and worldwide bestselling series—Robert Jordan's The Wheel of Time. The phenomenal tale that is mesmerizing a generation of readers now continues in Book Eight. The Seanchan invasion force is in possession of Ebou Dar. Nynaeve, Elayne, and Aviendha head for Caemlyn and Elayne's rightful throne, but on the way they discover an enemy much worse than the Seanchan. In Illian, Rand vows to throw the Seanchan back as he did once before. But signs of madness are appearing among the Asha'man. In Ghealdan, Perrin faces the intrigues of Whitecloaks, Seanchan invaders, the scattered Shaido Aiel, and the Prophet himself. Perrin's beloved wife, Faile, may pay with her life, and Perrin himself may have to destroy his soul to save her. Meanwhile the rebel Aes Sedai under their young Amyrlin, Egwene al'Vere, face an army that intends to keep them away from the White Tower. But Egwene is determined to unseat the usurper Elaida and reunite the Aes Sedai. She does not yet understand the price that others—and she herself—will pay. No library descriptions found.

The Wikipedia summary is pretty much it. It's a straightforward book that gets several story threads from Point A to Point B with few surprises.
I was glad that Elayne and Nynaeve's party finally *FINALLY* used the Bowl of the Winds. Hubby and I had started wondering, "What if it just turns out to be a burrito bowl?" But no, it did indeed fix the weather, somehow including a dash of saidin. (Also: Sky beam!)
Egwene rocks my socks, but still hasn't figured out anything about Halima. I'm seriously looking forward to the Siege of Tar Valon. I hope Jordan actually shows it in the next book. Egwene's lover-boy, Gawyn fighting for the other side is either going to be a Big Problem, or he will turn on Elaida to save her.
Perrin goes to smack the Prophet down a little bit. The ending of that thread did surprise me. F#& ! The Prophet in league with the Seanchan! Not to mention Faile & Co. getting all raided by the Shaido.
Rand goes all fire-and-lightning on the Seanchan at Ebou Dar, has hot times with Min, and learns a cool secret about Callandor, although he doesn't think it's very cool. He also gets betrayed. I'm not buying that Mazrim Taim wasn't part of it. I still think he's secretly Demandred.
Now if only we knew how Mat was doing after being squished by a building... "Next time on WoT!" ( )
