I feel this collection might have been a bit of trick on some readers, as it seems more like short stories layered within a framing story. As characters sit around the World's End Inn telling stories during a storm, wondering how they got there. I did like the main story, but wished there had been more to it. Same with the smaller stories: they were sometimes so short there wasn't much there. And the Endless hardly appear in the entire book. I also missed Dave McKean's covers in this one! While the previous volume was one of my favorites, this is probably my least favorite of the series. It just seems way too random, and the things that contribute to the overall storyline are too few and far between... I get the general idea of this volume, but I still didn't enjoy most of it very much. no reviews | add a review

NEW YORK TIMES bestselling author Neil Gaiman's transcendent series SANDMAN is often hailed as the definitive Vertigo title and one of the finest achievements in graphic storytelling. Gaiman created an unforgettable tale of the forces that exist beyond life and death by weaving ancient mythology, folklore and fairy tales with his own distinct narrative vision. Reminiscent of the legendary Canterbury Tales, THE SANDMAN: WORLDS' END is a wonderful potpourri of engrossing tales and masterly storytelling. Improbably caught in a June blizzard, two wayward compatriots stumble upon a mysterious inn and learn that they are in the middle of a 'reality storm. ' Now surrounded by a menagerie of people and creatures from different times and realities, the two stranded travelers are entertained by mesmerizing myths of infamous sea creatures, dreaming cities, ancient kings, astonishing funeral rituals and moralistic hangmen. I like the concept of this collection and the change of style.
I liked most of the stories, but the one with Prez is probably my favorite standalone in the whole series. ( )
