Long story, twists and turns and view of the past. Worth reading. ( ) Well, here we are after 18 hours of audiobook time. I found this novel incredibly boring. I feel as though Dickens could have removed 25 chapters and it would have only increased the speed of this novel by a fraction. I am only giving this 3 stars because there were some memorable moments in the novel and near the end of the novel, the pace picked up. I guess my "great expectations" were not met. But, even though the novel was extremely long, it showed just how humanity works and how, quite frankly, karma will hit you in the end. A perfect example of a classic novel in British literature. Book 275 - Charles Dickens - Great Expectations Apart from ‘A Christmas Carol’ and ‘The Signalman’…I haven’t read any others… until now. ‘Great Expectations’ is outstanding. A true classic. Brilliant characters…that are wonderfully developed… an intriguing tale of loss…emotional loss…love…family love…growth…and perhaps most importantly…why what a person learns, is sometimes more important than what someone is trying to teach. As we grow up with Pip, in what are indeed hard times..little Mr Dickens joke there…and he grows to trust some of what society sees as the lowest levels of humanity but Pip only sees someone needing a helping hand. How these lives mingle and crash together years later is brilliant… unnerving…and as is a common trait through Dickens’ novels…oh so real. Loved it..can’t wait for more.
The idea of an innocent boy establishing unconsciously an immense influence over the mind of a hunted felon … haunted Dickens’s imagination until he gathered round it a whole new world of characters and incidents Belongs to Publisher SeriesCollins Classics (14) — 43 more Dean's Classics (22) Everyman's Library (234) Gallimard, Folio (3190) Harper Perennial Olive Editions (2018 Olive) Penguin Audiobooks (PEN 42) Penguin Books (1041) Penguin Clothbound Classics (2008) Penguin English Library, 2012 series (2012-04) Perpetua reeks (30) The Pocket Library (PL-50) Reader's Enrichment Series (RE 303) Signet Classics (CE 1627) A tot vent (228) The World's Classics (128) Is contained inOliver Twist / A Christmas Carol / David Copperfield / A Tale of Two Cities / Great Expectations by Charles Dickens Great Expectations / Hard Times / Oliver Twist / A Christmas Carol / Bleak House / A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens 90 Masterpieces You Must Read (Vol.1): Novels, Poetry, Plays, Short Stories, Essays, Psychology & Philosophy by Various Great Expectations / The Uncommercial Traveller / New Uncommercial Samples / Sketches of Young Couple by Charles Dickens The Shorter Novels of Charles Dickens: Oliver Twist / Hard Times / A Tale of Two Cities / Great Expectations by Charles Dickens ContainsIs retold inHas the (non-series) prequelHas the adaptationIs abridged inIs parodied inInspiredHas as a reference guide/companionHas as a studyHas as a commentary on the textHas as a student's study guideAwardsDistinctionsNotable Lists
