Two things I can’t believe: (1) That it’s taken me sooo long to read this book (being that I’m a big mystery fan), and (2) that I’ve been able to avoid spoilers given how popular this book is (and has been for the past 75+ years)! It’s an amazing, complicated, intricate, puzzling mystery, and I enjoyed it very much. ( ) I know this book is a 4 or 4.5 star book easily. I liked the plot, the world building ( in this case, the island building) the twists are good and the fact that I mostly liked was the book made me engage. I never thought a moment where something in the book was not necessary. Talking about the reason for 3 stars, first, I don't like the reason the killer gives for doing all of this. Second, it didn't gave me chance to guess on others that they maybe the killer. Yes, the killer is a surprise for me but the candidates I took for killers are very low and they mostly didn't changed so often. But mostly the reason the killer gives for doing all of this made me give 3 stars to this. I haven't read this book in decades, but it stands up well overall. It's not really my cup of tea anymore as I steer away from cozies and am more into really great characterization, etc., but you've got to hand it to the queen on her intricate plots. I remembered the whodunit portion of the book, but couldn't remember the trick of howdunit. Nice escapism.
It is the most baffling mystery that Agatha Christie has ever written, and if any other writer has ever surpassed it for sheer puzzlement the name escapes our memory. We are referring, of course, to mysteries that have logical explanations, as this one has. It is a tall story, to be sure, but it could have happened. The mystery is foolproof. The solution is fair. It all fits together at the end.
