Some of the connections were too convenient but overall, it made me happy. I can't help but love Cormoran and Robin. Not necessarily together but as individuals, I love them. ( ) 4.5/5 This may be the best one so far. I like the progression of Robin and Strike's relationship (although this is the slowest of slowburns ever, but at least she finally left Matthew) The case was interesting and in the second part's gotten even more complicated, but I liked the resolution. And, as someone pointed out: Olympics riot, blackmailed minister and the mysterious murder - is that the Goblet of Fire? Even though the cases are always interesting, what I like the most about this series is Robin and Strike's dynamics. I'm glad this 4th installment of the series didn't go darker than the last. In fact, I was pleased it wasn't even as dark. This was another 22 hour book, excellently narrated by Robert Glenister that had me looking for excuses to go for a drive (the car is where my husband and I do all our audio book listening). Decent well-written mystery novel, but also nothing special. In the previous novels I kind of liked the story of their personal lives. In this one it was all a bit uninteresting. It's clear that galbraith wants to add some extra tension between Robin and Strike. It's a pity that it is done so obviously and unconvincingly. no reviews | add a review

"When Billy, a troubled young man, comes to private eye Cormoran Strike's office to ask for his help investigating a crime he thinks he witnessed as a child, Strike is left deeply unsettled. While Billy is obviously mentally distressed, and cannot remember many concrete details, there is something sincere about him and his story. But before Strike can question him further, Billy bolts from his office in a panic. Trying to get to the bottom of Billy's story, Strike and Robin Ellacott--once his assistant, now a partner in the agency--set off on a twisting trail that leads them through the backstreets of London, into a secretive inner sanctum within Parliament, and to a beautiful but sinister manor house deep in the countryside. And during this labyrinthine investigation, Strike's own life is far from straightforward: his newfound fame as a private eye means he can no longer operate behind the scenes as he once did. Plus, his relationship with his former assistant is more fraught than it ever has been--Robin is now invaluable to Strike in the business, but their personal relationship is much, much trickier than that."--Amazon.
