When Digory and Polly try to return the wicked witch Jadis to her own world, the magic gets mixed up and they all land in Narnia where they witness Aslan blessing the animals with human speech.
2008: I really enjoyed this prequel to the Narnia series. I don't think I read this one with the rest of the series as a kid.
The magician uncle is delightfully evil and, of course, gets his comeuppance, along the lines of a Roald Dahl tale.
The creation story with a twist is entertaining, as well.
2016: I chose to begin reading the series chronologically to my boys (ages 10 & almost 8). They've seen the movies (LW&W, PC, & maybe VDT), so they have some familiarity with Narnia. They quite enjoyed it & are excited for the rest of the series.

I've only seen the Chronicles of Narnia movies and am so excited to finally dive into the books!
The Magician's Nephew is a delightful prequel to The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, making for a quick and enjoyable read.
