    Findings from a multi-institutional, international study led by researchers from the Mayo Clinic Comprehensive Cancer Center have significantly advanced the understanding of genetic alterations in the BRCA2 gene, a key player in hereditary cancer risk. The researchers completed a comprehensive functional assessment of all possible variants within the crucial DNA-binding domain of BRCA2, resulting in the clinical classification of 91% of variants of uncertain significance (VUS) in this part of the gene. This finding dramatically improves the accuracy of genetic testing and will allow healthcare professionals to offer more precise risk assessments and personalized treatment plans for people carrying these variants.     Saudi German Hospital Egypt, a proud member of the Mayo Clinic Care Network, hosted the Nursing Excellence Symposium in Cairo from December 17–19, 2024. Mayo Clinic nursing leaders Lisa Thoe, M.S., R.N., vice chair of nursing; April Bursiek, M.S.N., R.N., senior nurse advisor; and Janelle Wozniak, MSN, RN, nursing education specialist, delivered impactful sessions, sharing their expertise and fostering dynamic learning experiences. A special thanks to Mary Meyer, account manager and Ghada abdalfattah Soliman, medical education supervisor, Dr. Mohamed Hablas, regional director for Egypt and North Africa, Dr. Ahmed Waheed, chief human resources officer for Egypt and North Africa and Dr. Eloisa Socorro Guarte, chief nursing officer, Saudi German Cairo for their efforts in organizing the event. The symposium featured engaging discussions and focused breakout sessions on key topics, including quality, governance, the MAGNET® journey, leadership development, orientation, and preceptorship. The event concluded with a closing ceremony and certificate presentation to attendees, celebrating their commitment to advancing nursing excellence.     Mayo Clinic researchers have pioneered an artificial intelligence (AI) tool, called OmicsFootPrint, that helps convert vast amounts of complex biological data into two-dimensional circular images. Omics is the study of genes, proteins and other molecular data to help uncover how the body functions and how diseases develop. By mapping this data, the OmicsFootPrint may provide clinicians and researchers with a new way to visualize patterns in diseases, such as cancer and neurological disorders, that can help guide personalized therapies.     Did you know that high blood pressure during pregnancy could increase your risk of early heart disease? A recent study has revealed a significant connection between hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP) and coronary artery disease. Women with a history of HDP are more likely to experience coronary artery disease earlier in life, including heart attacks that occur when the coronary arteries appear normal. It's crucial to recognize the long-term health implications of HDP. By understanding this link, women and their doctors can take proactive steps to protect their heart health. Researchers at Mayo Clinic, led by Vesna Garovic, M.D., Ph.D. and Sonja Šuvakov, M.D., Ph.D., are exploring the dysfunctions that may make it more likely for women to develop HDP and coronary artery disease. This is part of a growing body of research that has shown links between HDP and a greater risk for a wide range of health concerns, including stroke, kidney disease, brain cell damage, accelerated aging, and more.
