Imagine spending years researching a topic or solution, only to find out the background theory you based your hypothesis on is falsified or untrustworthy! This is the problem with the publish or perish mentality in research and further highlights the flaws in the current PeerReview and academic system. It is not just a crisis of replication in science; it is also a crisis of credibility. It exposes many holes in the Western education system. "Fake studies have flooded the publishers of top scientific journals, leading to thousands of retractions and millions of dollars in lost revenue. […] In the past two years, Wiley has retracted more than 11,300 papers that appeared compromised, according to a spokesperson, and closed four journals. It isn’t alone: At least two other publishers have retracted hundreds of suspect papers each.
