COVID-19 collection
On March 11th 2020 the WHO declared the SARS-CoV-2 outbreak a pandemic. Since then, the worldwide research community has started the fight against this infection, cause of the life-threatening severe acute respiratory syndrome, COVID-19. One year after, we have a much deeper understanding of the biology of this virus, and several vaccines that are currently in clinical use. Here, we offer a selection of articles published in Cell Death Discovery that contributed to the global fight against COVID-19.

Long non-coding RNAs
The complexity of the human genome clearly emerged with the identification of several classes of non-coding RNAs. Within these, long-non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) appear intriguingly complex, adopting many alternative mechanisms of actions and impinging on several basic biological processes of the cell. Deregulations of lncRNAs play a pivotal role in human disease and particularly in cancer. This collection of articles features some of the most relevant studies on lncRNAs published in Cell Death Discovery.

Cell Death in Health and Cancer in Memory of Professor Yoel Kloog (1948-2019)
This Special Issue of Cell Death Discovery collects reviews and provocative opinions on current issues in the field of cell death. The collection focuses on different previously unexplored aspects of relevance for physiology and/or cancer; these include implications of metabolic stress, microenvironment, inflammation as well as interaction with oncogenes/oncosuppressors. This Issue is dedicated to a very special person, Professor Yoel Kloog (Tel Aviv University, Israel), who left a great legacy of crucial scientific contributions and passion and dedication for science. He was and will remain a model and an inspiration for younger scientists. Here, experts in the field of cell death pay tribute to the memory of their friend.
