Plant Diversity and Evolution publishes original contributions from plant sciences in English language covering all fields of phytotaxonomy, systematics, morphology, anatomy and geobotany, ecology, synecology and their relationships to biogeography, plant distribution and dispersal, with significant emphasis on vascular plants. The submission of papers on ontogeny and its genetic aspects is also encouraged.

Contributions should not exceed 60 printed pages in length. More extensive papers may be published in the accompanying monograph series Bibliotheca Botanica subject to a previous agreement by the editors.

All manuscripts are peer-reviewed. All papers will be published with the least possible delay within about 6-8 months after having been accepted by the editor in charge. For the review process, manuscripts including all figures and tables should be sent as printouts (two copies) and as a pdf-file with all fonts embedded to the editor in charge, e.g. please submit

Submission of a manuscript for publication in Plant Diversity and Evolution is considered binding assurance that this work has not been and will not be published elsewhere in this form and length.

Copyright

With acceptance and publication of a manuscript the exclusive copyright for every language and country is transferred to the publishers. The copyright covers the exclusive rights both to reproduce and distribute the article including reprints, microfilm or any other reproduction and the rights to distribute as electronic file and for saving in data processing systems.

Manuscript structure and layout

Manuscripts must be ready for typesetting; this means prepared by word processor (MS Word file) with double-spaced lines, on one side of the paper. Block-text and hyphenation at the end of a line should be avoided.
Authors are requested to conform to modern high standard criteria for scientific publications.

Please structure your manuscript in the following way: Title page with manuscript title, name of the author or the authors with first name given in full and a shortened running title. A short informative abstract is placed after the title.

Acknowledgements should be placed at the end of the paper. Indications of genera and species have to be italicised, authors' citations following Latin plant names in capitals and lower cases, small caps are not used in Plant Diversity and Evolution.

Illustrations

Illustrations must contain the names of the authors and have to be numbered consecutively. All details must be clearly readable, when reduced to the typing area of Plant Diversity and Evolution 11.2 x 17.5 cm. If figures should be placed at special places, side by side or on opposite pages, this should be noted in the manuscript. For the print of colour figures please contact the publisher for a quote.

Figures must be submitted as tif- or eps-files. Please ensure to embed all fonts when submitting eps files. Digital halftone Figures should have a resolution of at least 300 dpi (tif, eps, jpeg), digital line drawings (only tif or eps!) should have a resolution of at least 600 dpi, preferably 1200 dpi. The final version of your manuscript should include high quality printouts of all digital illustrations.

Figure legends are to be submitted together on (a) separate sheet(s).

Literature references

Only list publications referred to in the text. When abbreviating journal titles authors are requested to follow the rules of the "BPH-2" (Hunt Botanical Library, Pittsburgh PA., 2004). Authors' names of systematic taxa should be cited according to the standard forms in "Authors of Plant Names" edited by R.K. Brummitt & C.E. Powell (Kew, 1992). Authors' names should be quoted in upper and lower case, not in block letters or caps.

Thus, references should appear as follows in alphabetical order:

Proofreading

The authors (the first-mentioned author for multi-author-papers) will receive one set of page proofs. In order to speed publication, we request that the corrected page proofs are checked and returned to the publishers immediately. In cases where the author is prevented from making corrections, he should appoint a representative to check the proofs. If the page proofs are not returned in time, the paper will be published exactly as it appears in the uncorrected page proofs.

Typesetting errors or small technical changes can be made, the authors will be charged in case of further corrections.

Reprints

A pdf-file for personal use free of charge will be supplied for each published paper; additional reprints may be ordered at cost, please ask for a quote.

PrePub

All articles which are ready to print will be published online prior to print publication (PrePub). Papers carry a DOI (Digital Object Identifier) and are fully citable. This service is free of charge.

Optional Open Access

Authors may have their articles made freely available online against charges (Optional Open Access, OOA, CC-BY-NC licence). Please contact the publisher (mail@schweizerbart.de) for a quote.
