CHANDRA ACIS SURVEY OF X-RAY POINT SOURCES IN 383 NEARBY GALAXIES. I. THE SOURCE CATALOG
- Jifeng Liu
- 5 November 2008
Physics
The Chandra data archive is a treasure for various studies, and in this paper we exploit this valuable resource to study the X-ray point source populations in nearby galaxies. By 2007 December 14,…
Puzzling accretion onto a black hole in the ultraluminous X-ray source M 101 ULX-1
- Jifeng LiuJ. BregmanY. BaiS. JusthamP. Crowther
- 27 November 2013
Physics
Optical spectroscopic monitoring of M 101 ULX-1 confirms the previous suggestion that the system contains a Wolf-Rayet star, and reveals that the orbital period is 8.2 days, and argues that the black hole has a minimum mass of 5, and more probably a mass of 20−30, but is very unlikely to be an intermediate-mass black hole.
A wide star–black-hole binary system from radial-velocity measurements
- Jifeng LiuHaotong Zhang X. Cui
- 1 November 2019
Physics
Radial-velocity measurements of a Galactic B-type star show a dark companion that seems to be a black hole of about 68 solar masses, in a widely spaced binary system.
A DETERMINATION OF THE SPIN OF THE BLACK HOLE PRIMARY IN LMC X-1
- L. GouJ. McClintock E. Schlegel
- 8 January 2009
Physics
The first extragalactic X-ray binary, LMC X-1, was discovered in 1969. In the 1980s, its compact primary was established as the fourth dynamical black hole candidate. Recently, we published accurate…
The Flare Catalog and the Flare Activity in the Kepler Mission
- Huiqin YangJifeng Liu
- 4 March 2019
Physics
We present a flare catalog of the Kepler mission using the long-cadence data of Data Release 25. This catalog comprises 3420 flare stars and 162,262 flare events. A comparison shows that the flare…
CHANDRA ACIS SURVEY OF X-RAY POINT SOURCES: THE SOURCE CATALOG
- Song WangJifeng Liu Peng Zhang
- 28 March 2016
Physics
The Chandra archival data is a valuable resource for various studies on different X-ray astronomy topics. In this paper, we utilize this wealth of information and present a uniformly processed data…
Ultraluminous X-Ray Sources in Nearby Galaxies from ROSAT High Resolution Imager Observations I. Data Analysis
- Jifeng LiuJ. Bregman
- 14 January 2005
Physics
X-ray observations have revealed in other galaxies a class of extranuclear X-ray point sources with X-ray luminosities of 1039-1041 ergs s-1, exceeding the Eddington luminosity for stellar mass X-ray…
A CENSUS OF X-RAY NUCLEAR ACTIVITY IN NEARBY GALAXIES
- Wei ZhangR. SoriaShuang-Nan ZhangD. SwartzJifeng Liu
- 7 April 2009
Physics
We have studied the X-ray nuclear activity of 187 nearby (distance less than 15 Mpc) galaxies observed with Chandra/ACIS. We found that 86 of them have a pointlike X-ray core, consistent with an…
The Optical Counterpart of an Ultraluminous X-Ray Object in M81
- Jifeng LiuJ. BregmanP. Seitzer
- 16 October 2002
Physics
Ultraluminous X-ray objects (ULXs) are off-nucleus point sources with LX = 1039-1041 ergs s-1; they are among the most poorly understood X-ray sources. To help understand their nature, we are trying…
