I appreciate that this is the fact that appears on a death certificate, but does it really tell us anything? For example, someone meeting their demise on a day trip to Spain - (Born:London, Died:Torremolinos). Their data now suggests they had emigrated!? I've also added coordinate location (P625) as a permitted qualifier - we occasionally know where someone died by coordinates rather than a formal address (particularly if it was at sea). Example at John Gane (Q26218387). Andrew Gray (talk) 14:10, 27 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

I've edited Cesare Bossi (Q15079873). He died while in prison, but P20 doesn't like that. People can die anywhere: in an elevator in a department store, while conducting an orchestra in a concert hall, while performing on stage. Thus I think P20 has to allow for a much broader interpretation of place of death. - Kosboot (talk) 15:44, 18 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

Thanks to all for recognizing my previous query and revising the property that now allows that one can die in all sorts of places. But now I'm wondering does the property need a specific geographic location? In the case above, Bossi died in King's Bench Prison which was located in London. Does there also need to be a property "geographic location of death", or does the specific building function also as a geographic locator? - Kosboot (talk) 13:51, 17 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

This property is intended to be some specific geographic location. I don't think we can use it like for "prison". Where is concensus for this? Probably some qualifier would be better, or a new property. --Infovarius (talk) 01:10, 21 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
Allan Hubbard (Q4730709) died in a rescue helicopter while being transferred from one hospital to another. This property allows you to die at sea (Q55438959) or in orbit (Q4130), but not in flight (Q52932736). Should we fix that? Schwede66 (talk) 04:22, 30 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

Qualifier added to indicate the name of the location at the date of death if it has since changed (like an hospital building which was later reconverted). Obviously the name should be among those listed on the place entity page (and ideally it could be deduced if those names have an associated known time span) --FoeNyx (talk) 15:29, 15 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
