Motivation

WikiTree person ID (P2949) has mapped Wikidata since 2016 and has now > 70 000 persons matched and run weekley checks between WikiTree and Wikidata see T237353. A POC was done T236340 to start use this property also for awards, administrative units and lesson learned is that for WIkiTree its better if we have 2 different properties.

WikiTree is showing how Linked data can be used to quality assure both WikiTree and Wikidata see T237353. This is the next step to also support more than just human (Q5) Salgo60 (talk) 08:59, 5 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion

I think it would be more useful to have a property WikiTreeLocation, that would identify equivalent of a WikiData location item on WikiTree pages. That could be applied to any region or cemetery or other area. Link would go to a Category on WikiTree. There are actually around 20000 location and 45000 cemetery categories on WikiTree at the moment. But in this case the Voyage categories wouldn't be linked, since that is not a location. In case it is not just for location, links shouldn't be limited just to Category namespace. There are also many Free Space Pages in Space namespace, that could potentionally be linked like https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Past_Mayors_of_NYC Lesko987a (talk) 10:18, 5 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Lesko987a: My guess is that Categories is like Properties in Wikidata so it will be more generic than just locations....

This seems conceptually wrong. If we are linking to categories, then our items should be categories as well. So in example 5, instead of Mayor of New York City (Q785304) the link should rather be added on Category:Mayors of New York City (Q8798440) (but perhaps not even that since their category only include past mayors and ours the current as well. "Same name" or "Same as" or ..... I guess we will learn more what is useful my feeling is that the Wikitree category Norra begravningsplatsen, Stockholm, Stockholm is more Norra begravningsplatsen (Q252312) than Category:Burials at Norra begravningsplatsen (Q8328135) which feels rather empty and more a redirect to Norra begravningsplatsen (Q252312) .... - Salgo60 (talk) 22:49, 5 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I see this property as a possibility that Wikidata can learn about Cemeteries etc. from WikiTree and that WikiTree maybe can enrich its category data and maybe add some wikitext, picture from Wikicommons on the category page. E.g. in Wikidata for Sweden we now have very good information about Swedish Church Parishes Github and I was part 2016 of start adding those parishes to WikiTree Categories that now can use Wikidata to get links to maps/free church books/"Bygdeband" (swedish local history)...

My vision is that we get a Linked data genealogy with FAIRDATA

e.g. a search in Wikidata for all people also in WikiTree with sources from the Swedish National Archive link i.e. we could also help each other get better quality sources... and maybe avoid vandalism on Open Free Data
- Wikidata is connected with photos at Swedish Portrait Archive > WikiTree can use Wikidata to find photos "same as"
maybe tools like Wikibase (local installed Wikidata) will make this possible

Please change it to something that can be used as a description on the property itself. Motivation should be added after the property template, not in this field.
