Motivation
editanalogue to X numeric user ID (P6552). in Wikidata:Property proposal/All the Tropes identifier User:Pamputt suggested that a curid would be more stable and would enable us to keep mediawiki based properties up to date. --Shisma (talk) 19:35, 29 November 2020 (UTC)
Discussion
edit- Support Useful to link to stable identifier. Pamputt (talk) 20:13, 29 November 2020 (UTC)
- See Wikidata:Property proposal/numeric ID.--GZWDer (talk) 23:19, 29 November 2020 (UTC)
- Related: https://dbpedia.demo.openlinksw.com/describe/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fdbpedia.org%2Fontology%2FwikiPageID&invfp=IFP_OFF&sas=SAME_AS_OFF&sid=966 . But I agree with GZWDer, a new datatype for this is highly desirable, so lets Wait. Ideally, I would like to see an MWAPI-level federation, as it was done with SPARQL, but maybe I ask for too much. --Lockal (talk) 10:16, 30 November 2020 (UTC)
- Abstain until I better understand how tooling might use it. Arlo Barnes (talk) 13:47, 30 November 2020 (UTC)
- Comment Didn't we already have this? If it is created, I think it should be created with datatype string or quantity, but not external-id as it wouldn't be specific to a wiki. It would be similar to page(s) (P304), file page (P7668) and a few other string properties. We could store the formatter url on property pages.
BTW Pamputt changed the proposed datatype from number to external-id [1]. --- Jura 15:21, 30 November 2020 (UTC) - Comment Agreed that this should just be a number, not an external id (and it's intended as a qualifier anyway?) - I changed the datatype back. ArthurPSmith (talk) 16:58, 30 November 2020 (UTC)
- I think it shouldn't be a number, but a string. Bounds and units don't make sense in curids. --Tinker Bell ★ ♥ 22:34, 30 November 2020 (UTC)

- Comment: Still not 100% sure how I feel about this, but if we are going to record both page names and curids, we might want to be consistent about how we do it. Notably:
- Some properties using page titles: RationalWiki ID (P7775), ProofWiki ID (P6781), EcuRed article (P8092)
- Some properties using curids: WikiSkripta article ID (P3471), OrthodoxWiki ID (English) (P7819), Vienna History Wiki ID (P7842), Romanistenlexikon ID (P9627), Armeniapedia ID (P9629)
- Assuming all the appropriate has characteristic (P1552) tags are filled in, there are 61 with the page-title approach and only 6 with the curid approach.
- Also, for what it's worth, I agree with Tinker Bell that this is semantically a string, not a number. Vahurzpu (talk) 17:55, 8 December 2020 (UTC)
